Our risk classification – guidance in assessing countries and regions
With our TRISAVO Risk Map 2025, we offer you guidance in assessing global security risks for travelers.
The risk classification is based on assessments of dangers and threats arising from local conditions such as crime, demonstrations/riots, terrorism and/or armed conflict.
A combination of factors therefore often plays a role in the final classification of countries and regions. Countries and regions where travelers absolutely need in-depth information on country-specific risks before traveling are marked with the signal colors orange and red.
However, the basic principle is that even in countries with a low risk classification, safety-relevant information is important for travellers and must be adequately provided by the sender in accordance with international best practice.
TRISAVO supports you in efficiently outsourcing various information requirements and minimizing your internal effort.
Very high risk (red)
Travelling is associated with very high risks. The country or region can only be visited with considerable restrictions. There is no fundamental comparability with the usual conditions.
Government authorities generally advise against travelling to such areas as the security situation is extremely tense due to factors such as armed conflicts, terrorist organisations, serious violent crime and unrest.
Access to the affected areas is often very limited for travelers and in many of these areas there is no significant government control; security forces are usually not available or hardly available. Before such a trip, a comprehensive security concept, including planning for individual, critical aspects, is therefore essential.
Travel to such areas should only be undertaken with detailed information about the local situation and thorough preparation. It is the responsibility of the sending company to prepare employees specifically and thoroughly for such trips. In the spirit of a sending company's duty of care towards employees, it is necessary to prepare specifically and thoroughly for such trips and to take protective measures, which may include training.
High risk (orange)
Travelling involves high risks. The country or region can usually only be visited with major restrictions.
Before traveling, essential precautions must be taken, such as developing a comprehensive security concept.
Government agencies often advise against travel to these areas, at least in certain regions. In some parts of the country, the security situation is extremely tense, characterized by armed conflicts, terrorist organizations, high levels of violent crime and frequent unrest. Additional security measures may be required locally.
Accessibility to affected areas can be severely restricted for travelers and security forces are often unavailable.
Such areas should not be visited without detailed information about the local situation and adequate planning. Out of a duty of care, it is appropriate for the sending company to prepare employees specifically and thoroughly for such trips.
Increased risk (yellow)
Travelling involves increased risks. However, the country or region can be visited without extensive precautions.
The security situation can be tense due to widespread violent crime and there may be other special risks that government agencies usually warn about. Long-lasting, violent protests are often not uncommon in these areas. Overall, dynamic changes in the situation must be expected, but precautionary planning is usually relatively easy to implement, as the security system is usually functionally in place.
Such areas should not be visited without prior information on the local situation and established emergency preparedness. Out of a duty of care, it is appropriate for the sending company to prepare employees for such trips.
Low risk (light green)
Travel is associated with low risks. The country or region can be visited with few restrictions. There are identifiable risks, mostly in areas such as crime and/or demonstrations, that may affect travel and require special measures.
Overall, the security system is good and comparable to the domestic level.
Due to the sending party's duty of care, such destinations require appropriate preparation of the employee, for example by providing information on the existing risks and basic emergency preparedness.
Very low risk (dark green)
Travelling is generally associated with very low risks. The country or region can be visited without restrictions. Violent crime against travellers is rare. Security forces are reliable and generally easily accessible. Although terrorist threats may exist, they do not pose an immediate danger, but an abstract terrorist threat situation cannot be completely ruled out. Violent protests are rather unusual and usually localised. The overall risk situation is very comparable to the domestic level.
Out of a duty of care, the sending company should prepare employees for such destinations, for example by providing information on identifiable risks and basic emergency preparedness.
